The Department of Veterinary Medicine provides training for highly qualified and competitive specialists for the region and the country, combining a strong scientific foundation with practice-oriented education and close collaboration with the veterinary industry.
Teaching is conducted in both Kazakh and Russian languages.
History and Mission
The Department was established in 1994 as the Department of Obstetrics and Surgery.
Over the years, it has developed an integrated educational and scientific environment that unites the fields of obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, internal non-communicable diseases, epizootology, infectious and parasitic diseases, and parasitology.
Throughout its history, the department has been led by:
- Prof. V.I. Ilyashchenko (1994; 2002–2006),
- Assoc. Prof. K.A. Krutalevich (1995–1999),
- Assoc. Prof. L.S. Selunskaya (1999–2000),
- Assoc. Prof. R.M. Ryshchanova (2000–2002),
- Assoc. Prof. K.U. Suleimanova (2006–2007; 2011–2013),
- Assoc. Prof. M.T. Baykenov (2007–2010),
- Assoc. Prof. A.A. Tegza (2010–2011),
- Assoc. Prof. V.A. Sapa (2013–2015).
- Since 2015, the department has been headed by Assoc. Prof. Marat Zh. Aubakirov.
Academic Staff
The academic staff of the department includes:

Faculty members regularly undergo professional development, participate in research internships at leading universities and research institutes both in Kazakhstan and abroad, and take part in grant-funded projects and sectoral research consortia.
They actively publish their research, present at conferences, supervise student research projects, and integrate modern digital and simulation-based teaching methods into the learning process.

A special feature of the department is its Parasitology Museum, which was created through the invaluable contributions of Senior Lecturer L.G. Koshkina, Assoc. Prof. K.U. Suleimanova, and Prof. V.I. Ilyashchenko.
The material and technical resources of the department allow students to develop practical skills, carry out educational and research projects, and master modern diagnostic methods.
